Topshop Lip Perfectors | Review

Topshop beauty launched 5 years ago and I was always a bit hesitant to dip my toe in as I often don't like it when fashion brands dip their toe into beauty. It's just a beauty snob thing I have going on, many people are like it too. In addition to this, any of my local topshops over the last 5 years have not had a fantastic selection of the range making purchasing a little less appealing. However, I have noticed more and more beauty bloggers and YouTubers raving about the range so I decided to try the Topshop Lip Perfectors. I also think its worth mentioning that lip products are the one product I really don't enjoy trying out because I struggle to find colours that look really nice on me. So if this review is positive, you can know that these products did really well...

The Lip Perfectors come in 4 different shades; 'Flattery', 'Fancy', 'Maraschino' and 'Ambition' and all retail for £6. They are obviously available from Topshop stores and online, but I also found them on feelunique.com which is great if you want to make a bulk order of many different brands. I picked up the shades 'Fancy' and 'Ambition'. 'Fancy' is a light pink shade with a touch of peach. What I really like about this shade is that it is not baby pink (ugh, how I loathe baby pink shades on me) but instead it is a nice grown-up pink. However, 'Ambition' is definitely my favourite. It's a really flattering nude with a hint of brown to it and I am making it my mission to get thoroughly stuck into nude shades for my lips and I use this product almost daily. Now I have introduced the shades I bought, let's get into the nitty gritty of the review...

Packaging: I absolutely love the packaging. The plastic squeeze tubes feel nice and good quality, the silver lids feel very strong and sturdy and do not scratch easily. Overall, very chic and sophisticated packaging and bloody good for £6.

Colour pay-off: Though these products are sheer, they do still add a nice colour to my lips and they are a great natural addition to a more intense eye or even to finish off a more natural look. I do also think they would work nicely over the top of a lipstick (possibly one with a matte finish) to add some gloss and light to the lips, particularly in the centre.

Bare lips

'Ambition'

'Fancy'

Formula: Really comfortable. Sometimes lip glosses can be super sticky and I hate that feeling on my lips day to day. They blend nicely onto the lips without the colour settling into any fine lines or looking patchy. They do hydrate and nourish my lips but I wouldn't use them as a sole aid to dry lips. You will however need to reapply after eating though but thats about as far as the negatives go... and is it really that much of a negative comment? I don't think so.

So I think we can all agree that I am a huge fan of the Lip Perfectors from Topshop. I'm not usually a red lip wearer but I may give 'Maraschino' a whirl this Christmas season to add a hint of red to my lips.

Let me know what you think of these products, or any other products you have tried from the Topshop beauty range!

I hope you enjoyed this review and found it useful!

Freedom Pro Conceal & Correct Palette | Review

In my last post, I spoke about a new video I had filmed where I tried out 3 products from highstreet brands Revlon and Freedom Make-Up, including the Pro Conceal & Correct Palette from the latter. Though I filmed my first impressions and how it wore throughout my shift that evening, I thought it would be useful as well to write a much more in-depth review of the palette for you.

So, lets talk about the brand itself. Freedom Make-Up London is a new make-up collection that launched in June this year, developed by Adam Minto (the same man who brought us Make-Up Revolution). From what I have read about Freedom, it is designed to bring professional products to the every day beauty lover at a more affordable price. This is evident when perusing their website as many of the products are labelled 'professional' or at least feature many types of products that higher end professional make-up brands do. This includes priming waters (as seen from Smashbox), glow tonics (as seen from Pixi) and sprays for spot brush cleaning (as seen from MAC and Clinique). The other pro tell-tale sign is the vast array of palettes and kits. Freedom Make-Up offer a range of brow, sculpting, highlight, strobing and eyeshadow palettes that you would often find professional make-up artists to have in their kits to provide for the many different skin tones they have to work on.

Now for someone like myself who isn't a professional make-up artist but has these seemingly professional products on offer, why wouldn't I want a piece of that? Not to mention the great prices! Concealer is an important step in my routine as I have redness and hyper pigmentation from active blemishes as well as those from when I was younger. So when I saw the Pro Conceal & Correct Palette for only £5, I had to give it a go and see if that £5 would be enough to help achieve a more flawless complexion.

So what do I think of the palette?

Packaging: I like the monochrome packaging but it is on the cheap side. I do wish it was completely black and had a mirror in the lid, as I think that would look much more pleasing than seeing all 6 colours on display (which isn't a huge deal breaker but I'd sacrifice it for a mirror). However, it does the job in keeping the actual product away from any dust laying around.

Colour selection: I really like the 6 colour variety. There are 4 concealer colours and 2 correctors; a green for redness and a salmon pink for blueness. I think the correctors did a great job at counteracting the redness around my nose and on my spots and the blueness on the inner corner of my eyes. I do really like the 4 concealers as well. I think they are very versatile and I will find a use for them all either when I am sporting fake tan, or when I'm as pale as a sheet.

Formula: I wouldn't say the products in the palette sat nicely on my skin. There was definitely an issue of them sticking to the dry areas around my nose and highlighting that issue. This is odd because the product itself feels quite creamy. However, that is an issue I have with many face products so I can't blame the palette solely of this offence. Nevertheless, it was patchy which does make me hesitant to use it in that area in the future. On my chin, it blended in slightly better though it did highlight my enlarged pores ever so slightly. I'm hesitant to put it on the area of skin in between my brows because I have very large pores there and I don't need any assistance in making those any more noticeable. Pigmentation with this palette is however, very good. As you will have seen from my first impressions video, the salmon shade really brightened up my inner corners which is fantastic. The green corrector was also great at counteracting the redness around my nose and on my blemishes. I also didn't notice any oxidisation from any of the colours which is great as this is a big beauty no-no for me.

If I were to rate this product out of 10, I'd give it a solid 7. It is good value for money when you think about how much product you get but with many things, it may not be for everyone. I wouldn't recommend it you have very dry skin (or even those with combination like myself) as it could really stick and show up the dry parts of your skin. However, they do have testers in store so it wouldn't hurt to test a bit out and see what you think throughout the day. Though for £5 can you really go wrong? I am definitely going to try out more from the brand, as well as its sister company Make-Up Revolution.

The Pro Conceal and Correct Palette is available from www.superdrug.com or in store for £5. You can also buy it from the brands website too: www.freedommakeuplondon.com

I hope you enjoyed reading this more in-depth review of the palette. Let me know what you think of this brand and any of the other products you have tried from them.

Lash Game Strong.

Big, fluttery lashes are my ride or die when it comes to my make-up look. I have quite big eyes but very blonde lashes that look almost completely invisible when I'm completely free of make-up. So naturally, I rely on eye products to pack and punch and bring some much needed life to my face.

Over the last few weeks I have been using only one mascara and it was a completely chance purchase. I usually do a lot of research before I buy any make-up but with the Maybelline Lash Sensational, I just saw, bought and hoped for the best! (Later on when I was reading reviews on it, I soon found out that a lot of other people enjoyed it too.) I really was not disappointed. This mascara gives me so much length and volume whilst defining my lashes too. The formula is build-able too providing the first coat is still wet/tacky. Once it is dry, it's not going anywhere and it can feel like you're tugging on your lashes when you apply more.

When it comes to false lashes, I usually reserve them for nights out or special occasions. However sometimes my natural lashes can be a little lack lustre, especially when they shed. Side note: only learned a few months ago that lashes shed and re-grow (?!) I don't really know what I thought they did but there ya go! I was pretty excited to try out the Eylure lash range by Fleur De Force. She happens to be my all-time favourite YouTuber and blogger and I've watched her videos now from the very beginning I think. I wanted to try her very favourites from her range and I must say, I really like them. The 'Fleur Loves' lashes are a 3/4 length which in most cases are the perfect length and the very tips are stone-ground tapered for an even more natural finish. (I recall Fleur mentioning that this is a new feature for Eylure lashes and might have its own patent? Don't quote me but I'm sure of it!)

When it comes to putting these beauties on, they are a dream. I've had them for a week now and I reckon I have worn them about 5 or 6 times. In the image, the lashes are after I've worn them so you can really see how well the shape holds up. I do like to remove the old glue before I re-apply, making sure to hold the lashes between my fingers to not disrupt the shape as I pull. Overall, I'm very impressed with these and I may have asked for the rest of the range for Christmas from my boyfriend ;)

Have you tried either of these products? Let me know what you think or you have tried other products that you absolutely love!

Finding My New Favourite Nude

Finding the right nude nail varnish can be a challenge for us pale skinned ladies. When I’m surfing my favourite beauty blogs and Instagram feeds, I lust after so many varieties of nude nail varnish and rush out to buy them in hopes they’ll look just as fantastic on me. However, you need to be realistic with yourself. Or more, I need to be realistic with myself. Beige can look great on someone, but on me I look like a corpse.

My Mum actually chose this nail varnish for herself as there was an offer on in Boots for 2 for £10 on all Rimmel products. I picked up a foundation, she picked the Salon Pro by Kate Moss in 237 Soul Session. That night I was redoing my very badly chipped nails and decided to use this as its neutral and I can probably get away with it at work.

I was very pleasantly surprised. It looks much more pink on the nails than in the bottle which is a bonus for me as it helps to warm up and flatter my pale mitts. I decided to go with 3 coats as I could still see through to my nail just a tad after 2 and I really like a completely opaque finish to my nails. The 3rd coat did not disturb and applied evenly with no ‘gloopiness’ or streaks. It dried fairly quickly and I finished it off with my nail enamel manicurists spray, which is a real throwback product in itself to the days I used to get acrylics. Maybe I’ll do a post more about it another time.

I’m hoping this varnish performs as well in durability as it does with the colour, but only time will tell. This little discovery definitely goes further than just nail varnish, it’s the same for lipsticks as well. The ‘perfect nude’ is so unique to each person that the actual term is more of an umbrella term than a definitive. Do your research and experiment, you’ll never know what future holy grail products are waiting for you…

My Go-To & Simple Summer Breakfast

I often go back and forth with my appetite for breakfast. Some mornings I wake up feeling really hungry and wanting to eat buttermilk pancakes with fruit, bacon and maple syrup, eggs benedict or eggs florentine (then my mind wanders about whether I could actually eat all three in one sitting...). Other mornings I have absolutely no appetite at all. The thought of eating anything turns my stomach enough to make me just want to drink orange squash until lunch time. Isn't it weird how my body is so indecisive? I blame it being on a gemini.

However, now that I am back home now and working part-time, eating nothing in the morning is simply not an option anymore. Some workdays I am awake at 5am for a 7am start and need something in me so I don't feel like I'm going to pass out half way through a busy shift. My Mum introduced this recipe to me as she too were in the same boat with early mornings. She has coined it 'Summer Porridge' which I think is a very fitting name.

All you will need for this recipe is:

  • 1 small tuppaware box
  • Yoghurt of your chosen type and flavour (we often go for strawberry/raspberry/vanilla Activia as they are the lowest in fat and sugar and the tastiest we have found thus far)
  • Frozen fruit of your choice
  • Porridge oats
Instructions for this breakfast could not be simpler. All you have to do is mix together the yoghurt and oats (the ones we buy come with a measuring spoon- though 1 or 2 tablespoons should suffice!) until completely coated and combined. Pop in your frozen fruit and into the fridge it goes to allow the oats to soak and the frozen fruit to defrost.

See how easy it is? I often make 2 at a time so I have a back-up just in case Mum needs something in the morning too. As the oats absorb into the yoghurt, it becomes much more creamy and fills you up just like a bowl of ordinary hot porridge on a winters morning would! Be sure to experiment with different flavours and fruit and see what your favourite combination is!

Thank you for reading and don't forget to share this post with anyone who you think would enjoy it too!

Have a great rest of your day!

My New Handbag Love

Happy Monday, everyone!

Today's post is all about a new addition into my handbag collection. Now, I am a self-confessed handbag addict. When I see a beautiful handbag on display in a store, I get the same excitement as many of us do when we see our dinner being brought to us in a restaurant and this particular handbag was no exception...

About a year ago, I was out shopping with my Dad's girlfriend and whilst she was trying on dresses in Karen Millen I was perusing the handbag and shoe display and spotted this beauty. A gorgeous tan leather medium sized messenger bag with large gold square studs around the edges. I'd never owned a tan handbag before, and now that I'm thinking about it I don't think I've ever bought myself a real leather bag. I picked it up and modelled it with eyes full of lust followed by a heart full of sadness as I laid it back down, knowing I couldn't and wouldn't bring myself to lay down a whopping £185 for it.

Fast forward about 4 months and I was in a Karen Millen outlet shop near where I live and spotted the exact same bag up on the shelf for £90!! I can't remember exact details but I'm pretty sure I let out a little squeal and skipped over to it. Again, I modelled the bag and argued with myself about how even with 50% off, I couldn't spend that much money. Let me give you some context, at the time I was a 3rd year student who was buying products for my practical dissertation and travel tickets. So I put the bag back and walked away.

Back to present day about 5 months later and I was walking idly around the same Karen Millen outlet again and yep, you've guessed it. There it was. It was knocked down further to £60 because it didn't have the long strap. However, my Dad's girlfriend had a similar bag and said I could have her strap as she never used it. Score!

Now onto the actual bag itself, as I have mentioned it is real leather. As I've gotten older and have been earning my own money, I have really learnt that quality completely trumps quantity when it comes to handbags and shoes. I also really love the pale gold hardware on the bag as it gives it an edge compared to other plain tan messenger bags. The lining is lovely too, it is a understated and classy leopard print and I think makes the bag a bit more exciting visually as linings can often be very plain. In terms of pockets, it has the usual zip pocket, phone holder and another miscellaneous pocket next to it for an oyster card or keys maybe. On the reverse of the bag, there is a flat pocket with a magnetic closure. I really like this for popping my phone, iPod or my train tickets in here for quick access.

As it has been about a year since I first saw this bag at full retail price, I don't believe it is available to buy anymore but if you live near a Karen Millen outlet, you may see one floating about. I have also seen a few of these bags and other variants on eBay too.

I hope you enjoyed this little review of my first quality handbag purchase. I really love it and I find it is perfect for the summer. However I do believe my love affair with handbags is now going to become a tad more expensive (though this one was a complete bargain!) but all the more beautiful.

See you on Friday!

Beauty Favourites | January 2015

The start of 2015 has been promising! I was gifted some gorgeous products at Christmas by my very generous family and boyfriend. I've been given them a full road test along with some other products that I purchased with my own money so let's go...

Urban Decay Naked Palette. The OG and the forerunner of the Naked palettes. It took me several attempts at my birthday and Christmas lists to finally get this baby and my oh my was it worth the wait. I'm a neutral eye kinda gal and this palette, as the name would suggest, just does the job right. I am a particular fan of the shades 'Naked' and 'Buck' for all over the lid and in the crease. I've also been using 'Half Baked' to push on some sparkle into the centre of my lid to open up the eye and 'Smog' for something a little smokier.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Nude Foundation in 100 Ivory. I bought this a few days before Christmas as my teeny tiny sample of a Benefit foundation (the name escapes me...) was running low and I needed something new. Drugstore foundations are probably my most sought after products to try. I'm all about the base (no treble) when it comes to make-up as I like to even out my skin tone and reduce any redness going on. I didn't love this at first, I found it didn't give as much cover as I'd like but since persisting with it and changing the tool I use (more on that further down), I can whole heartedly say that I love it! When it's buffed into the skin properly, it really does a good job at evening out and giving a natural finish to the skin.

Clinique High Impact Mascara in 01 Black. This was another gift from a family member this Christmas that I find myself reaching for on an everyday basis. It was on my list as I had tried a sample out from a magazine many months ago and held onto it because I loved it that much! It makes my lashes so effortlessly long and thick at the same time but not too much that they look spidery or clumpy. I love the wand as its a soft fibre one; I don't get on well with plastic ones at all.

Maybelline Brow Satin Eyebrow Pencil in Mahogany Red. For a long while now I have been searching for a eyebrow pencil that somewhat matches with my hair colour. I'm a full on natural ginger/redhead/strawberry blonde whatever you want to call it with extremely fair blonde eyebrows. However, brow products that I try out are always too cool toned and grey. It comes with a thin wax pencil on one end and a setting powder on the other and the colour just works really well at making my brows look a little thicker and more suited to my hair colour.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick SPF 15. I'd say its pretty common knowledge that the Eight Hour Cream is somewhat of an icon in the beauty world. It's extremely moisturising and can be used on many parts of the body where dry skin can occur. I've had this lip balm for a very long time and its pretty much attached to me all throughout the winter months. You can actually tell how long I've had this as it know comes in much more swish packaging.

Zoeva 106 Powder Brush. My lovely boyfriend very kindly got me the Zoeva Rose Gold Brush Set that I had been lusting after for months for Christmas and it has not failed me. I absolutely love this powder brush for setting powder and bronzer. It's ridiculously soft and washes really well.

Zoeva 102 Silk Finish Brush. This is very similar to the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush but has slightly longer bristles and has a rounder shape. I love this for the Rimmel Foundation I just mentioned. It applies the product really well, is extremely soft and isn't so dense that I feel like I am tugging at my skin, especially my eyes.

Zoeva 227 Luxe Soft Definer. A blatant dupe for the MAC 217 for much less money and from what I have heard, much better. As you can see from the photos, this brush has been very well loved and I often partner it with the Naked palette. It applies and blend eyeshadows so incredibly well that it makes blending so seamless and easy. I could honestly just sit and blend for a considerable amount of time. I think I may find myself on love-makeup.com stocking up on these as I use them so much!

I hope you found this post useful and has maybe swayed you into trying one or some of these products for yourself. Let me know what you have been loving this month in the comments below!

Make-Up Haul - MaxFactor, Soap & Glory & KIKO!

A shopping trip to Westfield's without browsing at the make-up aisles of Boots and KIKO? No, it doesn't make sense to me either which is why I obviously partook in such an activity. My list of products to try had been growing alarmingly over the last month or so; thanks to the beaut ViviannaDoesMakeup in particular.

MaxFactor Face Finity All Day Primer. I have been neglecting the primer department of my make-up routine for quite a while now. I really didn't get on with the Maybelline Baby Skin primer, the texture above all just made me squirm a little bit when I applied it. However, I have heard some good things about the fairly new-ish primer from MaxFactor and the assistant there told me it was oil free which is a great feature for me. I'm excited to try this out and really see if it keeps my make-up from slipping away; the bane of my make-up routine.

Soap & Glory Kick Ass Instant Retouch Pressed Powder. I love the powder that is in the Kick Ass Concealer and have been on the look out for a good translucent powder so didn't think twice when picking up the similarly named pressed powder compact. What I am thinking twice about it picking it up from the Boots in Westfields Shepherds Bush. The Soap & Glory stand was a mess to say the least and even though I reached to the back to get my powder, it was still partially smashed *angry face*. Let's hope it redeems itself...

L'Oreal Infallible Stay Fresh Foundation in 120 Vanilla. Another VDM recommendation! I love trying out different foundations. It's the one part of my routine that I really rely on as I have a whole lot of redness, uneven skin tone and hyper pigmentation going on. Reportedly lasts for 24 hours but honestly, who wears their foundation for an entire day?! Not me but I like the potential.

Soap & Glory Supercat Carbon Black Extreme Eyeliner Pen. My beloved L'Oreal Super Liner ran dry and I had heard a lot about this little number. I'm really hoping this is super black and doesn't drag on the eye which is a pet peeve I have with eyeliner pens.

Soap & Glory Archery Brown Tint & Precision Shaping Pencil. Now one thing I have been focussing on is my brows. I recently had them waxed (thank god!) and whilst I love them, they are a tad thin for me. However, this is nothing a little filling in cannot remedy. This is a product I have heard a lot about and thought it was time overdue to give it a whirl.

KIKO Color-Up Long Lasting Eyeshadow. Please note: I know I spell it 'colour' but it says 'color' on the packaging, to avoid any confusion. Back to the product. My oh my are these long lasting! Just upon swatching and a train journey home, these definitely need a little more elbow grease to take off. I picked '10', '20' '24'; a taupe, light brown and a purple. These were also in the sale at £3 a piece so I just had to pick up several shades! Very impressed so far and will definitely be creating looks with them soon!

L'Oreal Color Riche Lipstick in 'Julianne's Nude'. The main reason why I bought this is because Julianne Moore is a pale skinned redhead like me and logic said 'if it's her perfect nude, then surely it'll be mine too, right?' I popped it on whilst I was shopping as my lips were a little dry and I must say, I really do like it. I can definitely see this being my go-to everyday lipstick.

Whilst my make-up collection is looking rather replenished, my bank account is feeling rather less so...

The Golden Globe 2015 Red Carpet Round-Up

Last Sunday night, I perched myself on my sofa rather comfortably ready to watch all the celebrities step onto the Golden Globes red carpet in their Jimmy Choo's and equally beautiful gowns, prepare to swoon.

With a rather large penchant for high fashion (my kind of art if you ask me), I love seeing how celebrities can take their chosen designers creations that are already breathtaking in themselves and bring them to life. The Golden Globes are also in the midst of Californian winter and its always interesting to see what colours are showcased as well as the typical darker colours. Canary yellow and red were popular choices this year to name a few and here are five of my favourite looks.

Who? Rosamund Pike
Wearing? Vera Wang
Thoughts? Kudos to this lady for wearing a dress this revealing a mere 5 weeks after giving birth. Seriously. If I had a hat to take off, I would! Albeit a very brave choice, I don't think it was the right choice for her. I'm not keen on how the top fits. I do wonder if it would look better if the straps were slightly more halter neck style. Nevertheless, her hair and make up was beautiful, I'm just not keen on the dress choice.

Who? Allison Williams
Wearing? Custom-made Armani Privé
Thoughts? Everything about this dress I love. The colour, the frills, the fit. The fact that is was custom made for her is enough to make me go 'oooh how glamourous'. Allison looks very old Hollywood and I'm all about this look. It really is timeless.

Who? Lupita Nyong'o
Wearing? Giambattista Valli Haute Couture
Thoughts? Lupita was a knock-out in 2014. Since the film 12 Year's A Slave hit theatres and she stepped on many a red carpet, she quickly became one hell of a fashionista. Her arrival to the Golden Globes in 2015 was no different. She looks incredibly beautiful in this dress; the colour suits her so well, its young but still chic. Definitely one of my favourite looks of the entire evening.

Who? Kate Hudson
Wearing? Versace
Thoughts? *Jaw drops* Dang girl, Kate Hudson is white hot in this dress (pun always intended). The diamanté embellishment along the ribcage and plunging neckline are one hell of a risk but she definitely pulls it off. Her body looks fantastic; such an excellent choice!

Who? Jessica Chastain
Wearing? Atelier Versace
Thoughts? Hands down, my absolute favourite look from the night. I'm recently a Jessica Chastain convert, and it may be due to the fact that she's a redhead like me. I find myself turning to her for make-up and fashion inspiration quite a lot nowadays. At the Golden Globes, she oozed sex appeal and I've got to be honest, when I first saw her in this dress I did think "Damn, she is looking... perky". I also really like the colour of this dress. On TV it could be mistaken for black but when she walked, the true colour really showed and it complements her skin tone and hair colour so well.

Did you watch the Golden Globes? Who was your favourite look from the evening?

Thank you for reading!

Ciaté Bargains

Hello again and Happy New Year!

I love TK Maxx for a good bargain and this shopping trip was no different. I'm a self-confessed nail varnish addict. I just can't get enough of trying different brands, colours and textures.

I absolutely fell in love with these colours as surprisingly, I don't own anything like them. The shades I got were 'Gold Digga'; a hybrid of bronze and 'Mines A Mocha'; a deep chocolate brown. Both shades have a fine shimmer running through them.

I've never tried Ciaté varnishes before but have always thought they look really classy with the long black handle and cute black bow. Thanks to the January sales, I only ended up paying £5 for the two full size bottles which I was thrilled about.

Most of the year I always opt for dark colours on my toes. Anything too light doesn't do anything for my very pale skin. Usually I wear dark plums or burgundies so a chocolate brown will be a nice change to try.

These varnishes are actually in the sale on the Ciaté website now so if you want to try these out, be quick!

I'm excited to see what these look like on my nails and also what nail art designs I can achieve.

Have you ever tried Ciaté nail varnishes? What are your favourite shades?
